Before going further let us first know what is a lightbox? A lightbox is basically used by various artists across the world, it comprises of frosted glass and it is mainly used for exploring photographic negatives. I am an artist and I know these things very well, I use a lightbox in order to find out my earlier drawings and making improvements in the drawings. There are various Artists light box available but I personally use a Hobbycraft Lightbox, which is equipped with two energy saving light bulbs. I usually spend most of my time drawing for long hours and this is the reason I chose this lightbox as it can be used for longer hours.
I sometimes work for late hours in the night and this is where my lightbox serves the purpose well. During night, there is not enough light and I just switch on my lightbox in order to create my designs. A lightbox is also helpful during the daytime when I am dependent on the light coming from the windowpane, which sometimes is not enough. At times, halogen or desk lamps could also be put be put into use for extra light.
Let me tell more about what one should keep in mind while purchasing a lightbox –
- In the older times, Artists lightbox were made in such manner that it used to have a glass top and at that time the artists were quite satisfied with that. But then, it was noticed that there is a danger of the glass getting cracked due to the excessive heat coming from the light bulbs. Then it was made using durable plastic and it was called shatterproof.
- Talking about my personal choice, I use A3 lightbox because I get more area to work on and it is quite easy to work on different drawings simultaneously.
- My lightbox has space for keeping pens and pencils and one should look for this feature while purchasing. According to me it is very important to be organized while drawing different projects and at that time searching for pencils can be quite frustrating. So, if there is a separate space for keeping pencils then it is more convenient.
- I should make the most of this opportunity to mention that the lightbox has energy saving light bulbs. This helps in blocking excessive heat and causing burns to the table.
